AFL Grand Final teams: Swans top pick ‘set for GF doom’ as crisis looms

Former selection no.4 Logan McDonald He will reportedly be left out of the starting 22 when Sydney call their grand final on Thursday night.

Nine News reporter Braden Ingram reported on Thursday that McDonald would be sidelined in favor of Hayden McLean.

McDonald, Ingram added, could return to the side as a medical stand-in or as a replacement for his forward partner. Sam Reid if Reid is deemed ineligible to play.

McDonald, the Swans’ first pick in the 2020 draft when they made two top-five selections, has played 17 senior games this season, including five consecutive starts since round 21.

He has scored one goal in both of the teams’ finals.

McLean has not played a senior game since round eight and has managed 10 goals in his eight games.

There are doubts over Reid’s ability to play in Saturday’s clash as he manages an adductor injury suffered in the preliminary final win over Collingwood, which saw him substituted.

Justin McInerney is another whose selection remains uncertain, but Reid is considered more likely to take the field as he manages an ankle injury.

Another option to replace Reid or McDonald is Joel Amarteywho has played six senior games this season.

Geelong’s top selection call centers are located around Max Holmeswith the fit winger racing the clock to overcome a hamstring injury in time for Saturday’s game.

Holmes was substituted for the preliminary final win against Brisbane last Saturday but covered a significant amount of ground during his time on the field.

Despite initial fears he would be forced out for this week’s game, Holmes remains remarkably in the squad, completing running and kicking drills throughout the week.

The Grand Final teams will be revealed here tonight at 6:20 PM EST.
